Timber to Colorbond
The most common swap. Steel removes the rot and termite worries that ended the timber fence.
Fence replacement Wagga Wagga owners need often follows years of patching. The posts have gone at the base, the palings are splitting, and every storm brings another bay down. At that point, a planned replacement costs less than repeated callouts.
We remove and dispose of the old fence, then install a new one in Colorbond, timber, aluminium, mesh or rural wire. Your yard is left open for as short a time as we can manage.

The most common swap. Steel removes the rot and termite worries that ended the timber fence.

A new paling or lapped fence that keeps the look of the old one, often with steel posts this time.

An old brick, wire or picket front fence replaced with slat aluminium or a new timber design.

Sagging rural or commercial wire replaced, with strainers and posts renewed where needed.
Short runs can often be removed and rebuilt with posts set the same day, leaving the panels to go on once footings cure.
Long runs are replaced in stages so most of the fence stays up and pets stay contained.
Where the yard must stay secure overnight, temporary panels can be hired to hold the line.
Occasionally existing steel posts are sound and can be reused, which we check rather than assume.
Replacement is the moment to fix the reason the old fence failed. Match the new material to that cause.
| Finish | Characteristics | Typical applications | Considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colorbond steel | Steel sheet and posts, no routine coating. | Replacing rotted or termite-damaged timber. | Solves rot and termite problems, but it cannot rake on a slope and dents if hit. |
| Timber on steel posts | Timber face with steel at ground level. | Owners who like timber but lost the last fence at the posts. | Keeps the traditional look while removing the most common failure point. |
| Aluminium slats | Powder-coated slats on aluminium posts. | Front fences and courtyard screens. | A visual upgrade at the front, though not fully private for back yards. |
| Galvanised mesh or wire | Open, durable and low cost per metre. | Rural boundaries and commercial yards. | Fine for stock and security; offers no screening unless shade cloth or slats are added. |
Removal can uncover problems. Checking first stops surprises on the day.
Older fibro sheet fences may contain asbestos. In NSW, removing more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos needs a licensed removalist.
Some old fences hold back soil. That soil needs a proper retaining solution before a new fence goes on.
Cables and pipes sometimes run along fence lines, so we lodge a Before You Dig Australia enquiry.
We agree how long the yard will be open and whether temporary fencing is needed.
We look at the old fence, the ground and anything it is holding up or hiding.
We agree the new material, height and gates, and confirm the line with you and your neighbour.
The quote shows removal, disposal and the new build as separate lines.
The old fence is taken down and old concrete footings broken out where they are in the way.
New posts are set and the fence is built, with gates hung and adjusted.
Old materials are taken away and the line is left tidy for planting or edging.
Removal is labour heavy. These are the tasks inside that line of your quote.
Timber, wire and steel are taken away; metal is recycled where possible.
Old concrete footings are broken out or left in place and avoided, depending on the new post positions.
We protect garden beds and lawns along the line as far as practical during removal.
Work on the neighbour's side is agreed beforehand so their yard is respected too.

Every post on a 30-metre paling fence is rotten at ground level. The owners want steel posts with a new timber face.

A fibro fence must be assessed for asbestos first. Once a licensed removalist clears it, we build the new steel fence.

An old wire and pipe front fence is replaced with a low horizontal slat fence and a matching gate.
These are examples of the kind of replacement brief we price. They are not photographs of finished local jobs; images are stand-ins until job photos are added.

| New fence type | The chosen material sets most of the cost. |
|---|---|
| Old fence removal | Heavier fences and concreted posts take longer to remove. |
| Disposal | Tip fees and transport vary with the material removed. |
| Ground surprises | Old footings, roots and buried rubble can slow digging. |
| Temporary fencing | Hire is added only if the yard must stay closed overnight. |
If suspected asbestos is present, assessment and licensed removal are arranged and priced separately before our work starts.
Get a replacement quoteIf many posts are rotten or loose, the fence leans along its length, or you are repairing it every year, replacement is usually better value.
Short runs can often be done with minimal open time. For longer runs, we stage the work or arrange temporary fencing.
Yes, removal and disposal are part of our replacement quote, except for suspected asbestos, which needs a licensed removalist.
A dividing fence is usually replaced as a whole. Under NSW law, neighbours generally share the cost of a sufficient fence.
Sometimes steel posts are sound enough to reuse. Timber posts are almost always replaced.
Many suburban replacements take a few days, including curing time for footings. Your quote gives a realistic window.
Send photos of the existing fence and tell us what you want instead. We will inspect, check for anything that complicates removal, and send a written quote.
Every old fence tells you how it failed: rot at the base, termites, wind, soil pushing against it or sprinklers soaking one section. We look for that cause and design the new fence to avoid it.
We will not build a new fence against soil that the old fence was holding back, and we will not touch fibro sheeting before an asbestos assessment.
